Cindy Xu is an actor, writer, producer, and musician born in Shenzhen, China. She grew up in Vancouver from the age of 5, and has lived in cities like New York and Berlin in her adult life! She centres her work on serious whimsy and explorations of form and performance. Her artistic mission is to uplift and inspire minoritized groups through radical imaginings of their identities on the screen, stage, and page. She is a graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts (Drama BFA ‘23) at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and NYU Berlin.

After graduating, Cindy performed in experimental theatre shows Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway. Her recent credits include Coriolanus (Hudson Classical Theatre Company/Central Park NYC), Titus Andronicus (Fool Volk/La MaMa Rehearsal Studios), and Legend of the Chalk Circle (Tier 5/The American Theatre of Actors). She loves exploring elements of stagecraft, including rat-sized blood squibs, audience participatory zumba classes, and INFLATABLE POOLS. She is currently writing an post-apocolyptic play taking place in an all-girls private school. She is a proud member of the Actors Equity Association.

As a film actor, Cindy has acted in multiple independent films, multi-media projects, and commercial work in New York, Berlin, and Vancouver, BC. Her films have screened at the Asian American International Festival, Rhode Island International Film Festival, and on the face of Citibikes in Manhattan...

Musician Cindy is a multi-instrumentalist (piano, violin, guitar, bass), playing music almost all her life! She has worked on original musicals at Playwrights Horizon, and made her 54 Below debut accompanying 20+ singers on their legendary Steinway grand. Her recent credits include performing at the 2025 Vancouver International Jazz Festival with The New Improvizers Studio led by Susie Ibarra.

Cindy’s production work includes A Night of Unstageable Works, an experimental theatre festival which had its third iteration at TheaterLAB (New York) May of 2025. She also wrapped production on her first short film, “HEATWAVE” (of which she wrote and starred in) coming soon end of 2025. She is the original co-founder and co-producer of Lighthouse Ladies LLC, an international, women-led production company.

Coming up next: Executive producer of “Take Me To Dollywood” (playing at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, May 2026).
