The rabbits gathered at the well
Dancing singing round and round
When suddenly there was a shout
And down a rabbit fell...
Cindy Xu is an actor, writer, producer, and musician. She centres her work on serious whimsy and explorations of form and performance textures. Her artistic mission is to lift up minoritized possibilities through unlimited imaginings. Cindy graduated with a BFA in Drama from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, studying at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. She also studied abroad in Berlin, Germany alongside faculty from the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Berlin University of Arts.
From there, Cindy performed in experimental theatre shows Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway. Her recent credits include Coriolanus (Hudson Classical Theatre Company/Central Park NYC), Titus Andronicus (Fool Volk/La MaMa Rehearsal Studios), and Legend of the Chalk Circle (Tier 5/The American Theatre of Actors). She loves exploring elements of stagecraft, including rat-sized blood squibs, audience participatory zumba classes, and INFLATABLE POOLS. She really wants to write a show with an inflatable pool...
As a film actor, Cindy has acted in multiple independent films, multi-media projects, and commercial work in New York, Berlin, and Vancouver, BC. Her films have screened at the Asian American International Festival, Rhode Island International Film Festival, and more.
Musician Cindy is a multi-instrumentalist (piano, violin, guitar, bass), playing music almost all her life! She has worked on original musicals at Playwrights Horizon, and made her 54 Below debut accompanying 20+ singers on their legendary Steinway grand. As a violinist, she performed a live soundtrack to Macbeth as one of the Witches (Stella Adler Studio of Acting). She has music directed for Brooklyn Music School, and taught piano to students aged 5-65.
Cindy’s production work includes A Night of Unstageable Works, an experimental theatre festival which had its third iteration at TheaterLAB (New York) May of 2025. She’s currently writing an post-apocolyptic play taking place in an all-girls private school.
